Assessment Records

Assessment records establish the value of the land for taxation. In addition to tax information, these records include the age of the head of the household, his occupation and the amount of statute labour (the number of hours that a person had to spend maintaining the roads in the area).

The earliest assessment records in the Grace Schmidt Room are on the Gore District microfilm, from 1816 to 1840. A list of records for each township is kept on top of the microfilm cabinet.
